The Gage Park Community Garden was established in the summer of 2011.  We are a not-for-profit community group dedicated to building and maintaining a community of gardeners in the Gage Park area.

Some of our goals include:

  • Providing community members access to a garden space and land to grow on
  • Helping to educate and promote gardening as part of a healthy and wholesome lifestyle
  • Helping to create a progressive and prosperous neighbourhood of involved individuals
  • Helping to spread the knowledge of issues related to food security
  • Helping to bring individuals together to share knowledge

The garden has 31 ‘private’ plots that are rented each year.  In addition, there are 2 communal plots, one for herbs, one berry patchwhere gardeners share the bounty.

Everyone is welcome at the Gage Park Community Garden; if you are interested please contact us by e-mail at gageparkgarden@gmail.com

  1. Hello fellow gardeners. I am Greg and you may recall I volunteered to be one of communal plot coordinators this season. I have been searching for local groups (wards 3 & 4) who would make good use our produce. I happened upon Environment Hamilton’s Food Box Program through this week’s Community News in the Free Press and discovered there is a pick-up location on Ottawa Street North at the Hamilton Regional Indian Centre. I spoke to Maureene Ninham who is the Child Nutrition Coordinator with the centre and she likes the idea. What do you think?

  2. Hello again gardener friends. Today I worked at a local soup kitchen called The Olive Branch on Rebecca St. I mentioned to the proprietor Earl that we will have fresh produce available in season for donation and that I would like bring him some. He really liked the idea and the Olive Branch feeds 50+ people every Wed, Thurs and Fri, 52 weeks per year. We now have two distributors for our fresh produce who are able to dispense to the needy immediately.
